The Stranahan House in Ft. Lauderdale

This painting shows a hundred years of history of Fort Lauderdale. Center piece is the so-called Stranahan house, the eldest existing building and a historic landmark of Fort Lauderdale. It was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan and is preserved in its shape of 1915. Stranahan, convinced some of his friends to join him investing in Florida. But, they came 5 years to early and all went bancrupt due to a collapse of the real estate market in the late 20ies. Stranahan could not stand the shame and committed suicide in 1929. Some years later, with a little wait, all of them would have made a fortune as land prices started to increase and the boom started. Today, Stranahan house is located in the middle of downtown surrounded by sky-scrapers with thousands of appartments which do net sell under 1 million USD each. Other buildings are banks which finance this urban development. Stranahan House is located at the New River who comes from theEverglades and reaches the Atlantic ocean 4 miles from here in the west.
The painting is oil on canvas and comprises mainly the colors blue and green which are symbols of Florida: A lot of water and a rich nature.
